In Ignalina district there are about 260 functioning enterprises. 68 % of them are small, 22 % – medium and 10 % – large – sized enterprises.
The fact of Lithuania’s entering the European Union gave an additional impulse to Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Region which part, together with Visaginas and Zarasai district municipalities, Ignalina district municipality is. Not only Lithuanian enterprises but also the companies of the entire EU are interested in the projects that are made here, they often propose their cooperation. Attractiveness of this region is increased by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania to give the additional evaluation points to the applications from Ignalina NPP Region for EU Structural Funds.
Very important to Ignalina is the town gasifying project. Gas is a secure and not expensive energy. The business people are interested in this field. Foreign investors are interested in possibilities of clay adaptation, manufacturing of wood cutting slabs and non-fabric materials, building of the big farms of greenhouses (till 100 ha). In our district there are rich resources of pure clay. The examples of clay are investigated in Denmark and very well evaluated. The specialists say that this clay would be suitable for manufacture of tiling.
Ignalina municipality successfully cooperates with Buren municipality (Germany). Few years ago a large German company “BHK”, having a long-time experience in Furniture manufacture industry and the company branches in Germany, England and USA, established a furniture manufacture unit in Ignalina. JSC “Aplinkuma from Vilnius, that is building the panel houses, at the premises of failed Fuel Equipment Plant, established its branch in Dukstas village. Here are manufactured the panel houses that are willingly bought by Norwegians. After the new owners took a failed company “Duksto duona”, it continues working successfully, baking bread and breadstuffs. JSC “Dalaudas”, an official representative of the enterprise “Weideman” in Lithuania, last year sold 30 tractors-loaders of various models. This enterprise has also a furniture manufacture workshop. JSC “Romnesa” is a leader in Lithuania in the field of baking the treecakes (in Lithuanian “šakotis”). This enterprise demonstrates baking of treecakes to the guests of Ignalina district and the tourists. JSC “Romnesa” has purchased the necessary equipment for business development in tourism field: some cayaks, canoes, diving equipment, bicycles, a movable sauna, some bathing vats. This enterprise hires the stock, related with tourism and intermediates providing the tourism services, using the mark of “Ignaturas”. The most effectively working building and construction companies are: JSC “Ignalinos statyba” and JSC “Meleksas”. A company that works in wood manufacturing field is JSC “Ignolitos mediena”, in stew fishery field – JSC “Birvetos tvenkiniai”.
It’s nice to notice that a private stock in service providing field is coming to Ignalina. New cafés, enterprises, providing recreation and accommodation services are established and some more are going to be established in near future.
