Nowadays in Ignalina district there are 3 gymnasium, 3 primary schools, anr two non-formal education institutions. Most of  schools are renovated; the pupils and teachers have good conditions for work and education. Those schoolchildren who live father, every morning are given the rides by buses of Ignalina Bus Park or yellow school minibuses. Somebody are taken to school by private their parents’ cars. The level of computerization in our schools is one of the highest in the Republic.

The pupils of district schools have been well educated. About 60 % of graduated pupils enter the high schools (universities) of Lithuania. But there is one problem: there is a lack of qualified specialists in Ignalina, as well as in all the country – doctors, teachers of some special subjects, engineers etc. Seeking to encourage the young people to come back to Ignalina district after they finish their studies, there is made a Study Support Programme.

In Ignalina district there are 20 working libraries: Public Libraries in Ignalina and  19 their branches. Together with the libraries there are 14 clubs and extracurricular activities for the people having various hobbies, e.g. Literati Club at the Public Library of Ignalina “Lelija”, Seniors’ Club “Rudenelis”. In Ignalina district there is a Culture Centre, its branch, targeted to ethno culture and 12 branches of Culture Centre in the villages. 

Many people come to visit or participate in the annual festivals of summer beginning and its end, in every two years taking part international folk music and dance festival "Ežeru sietuva”, republican amateur-theatre festival-competition "Pastoge", songs’ festivals "Mažoji žvaigždutė",  "Dainuokit vyturiai”,  children folk festival “Ir atskrido raiba gegute”, international theatre festival of children and youth “Bilduciai”. Distinctive and almost traditional is a republican folk music festival “Kaimynu pasiutvakaris” in Ceikiniai.

Well-known and well-liked are folk dance group of children and youth “Lelijele”, adult folk music and song group “Ciulbute”, children folk group “Ratucis”, united adult choir, folk music, song and dance group “Gaja”, making performances not only in this town or district but also abroad. Active cultural activities are going on in the villages too: there are 48 art-fanciers’ clubs and groups that are attended by 430 adults, children and youth. The fanciers of florist-art have gathered a group in Mazenai village. There are the youth clubs in Dukstas and Didziasalis, women’s clubs in Vidiskes and Didziasalis villages.
